John Dunphy – Master Wedge Cutter
John lives in Tramore, with his wife Valerie and their two children. He enjoys golf and soccer and is involved in coaching children’s soccer.
John started his employment with Waterford Crystal in 1981 after celebrating his sixteenth birthday. He completed his five-year apprenticeship in 1986 excelling in all the test pieces he was required to cut as part of his training. He became a Master Cutter in 1989 after completing the necessary training.
John’s favorite part of cutting crystal is learning all the different patterns and getting to the stage where he can complete them from memory. During his time with Waterford Crystal he had many opportunities to meet with visitors to the factory and tourists passing through the City. On such occasions John always took advantage of the opportunity to speak about his craft of hand cutting crystal. John is looking forward to new challenges with Cashs Crystal, especially as it is a new brand of crystal that maintains the old style of crystal hand cutting.
