Anne Nilsson

Anne Nilsson studied art at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania and glass and ceramics at the National College of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm, where Kosta Boda's Bertil Vallien was a teacher and Kjell Engman a classmate. During her student years, Anne interned with Kosta Boda, exploring the boundless artistic possibilities of glass. After further studies in California, and work as a ceramics designer, Anne joined Orrefors from 1982-1999 where she created many successful patterns. In 2001, she returned to Kosta Boda where her first projects were launched in 2002. Anne is a skilled designer whose talent for glass results, in her words, "in unexpected forms that add beauty to everyday life." Her designs are in the permanent collections of numerous museums and she has been recognized for excellence in design, including the coveted Excellent Swedish Design award for 16 product lines.

About Kosta Boda

With characteristic craftsmanship and good design, and an ongoing commitment to avant-garde expression, Kosta Boda has become one of the leading glasshouses in the world.

The company's three glassworks in the villages of Kosta, Boda and Åfors each have exciting individual stories of their own, yet stand together under the common brand name Kosta Boda.

Ten designers are currently on retainer at Kosta Boda. They work with both utilitarian and art glass. The designers are Monica Backström, Olle Brozén, Anna Ehrner, Kjell Engman, Anne Nilsson, Ulrica Hydman-Vallien, Gunnel Sahlin, Bertil Vallien, Ann Wåhlström and Göran Wärff.

Glass results from a great many meetings between people - artists, craftspeople and lovers of glass. The artists of Kosta Boda have a decisive role to play in all the creative stages of the process.

The cooperation between the designers and the skilled craftspeople is very close; indeed, it is essential if the designers are to transfer their intentions to the glass.
