Kosta Boda skilled glassworkers make Poppy series by hand in Kosta using lead-free crystal. First, three color rods are melted together to form the hub of what will then be blown into a bowl, vase or dish. The molten glass is caught on the pipe in two batches, building up the parison that will be blown up. the characteristic small bubbles of the series are created after the first gather, and after the second, the glass body is attached to a new pope, giving the product its stand and the glass. The poppy is associated with Demeter, the Greek goddess of fertility and the harvest.

With characteristic craftsmanship and good design, and an ongoing commitment to avant-garde expression, Kosta Boda has become one of the leading glasshouses in the world. The company's three glassworks in the villages of Kosta, Boda and Åfors each have exciting individual stories of their own, yet stand together under the common brand name Kosta Boda.

Eight designers are currently on retainer at Kosta Boda. They work with both utilitarian and art glass. The designers are Olle Brozén, Anna Ehrner, Kjell Engman, Ulrica Hydman-Vallien, Bertil Vallien, Ludvig Lofgren, Asa Jungnelius and Göran Wärff. Glass results from a great many meetings between people, artists, crafts people and lovers of glass.

The artists of Kosta Boda have a decisive role to play in all the creative stages of the process. The cooperation between the designers and the skilled craftspeople is very close; indeed, it is essential if the designers are to transfer their intentions to the glass.
