Royal Doulton Figurine of the Year for 2011 is Emma. Emma is wearing a striking purple dress that is trimmed in gold. She has on matching gloves and seems to be holding her had onto her head so it doesn't blow away. It must be a warm spring day because her dress says it's warm, but she's holding her hat against the wind and she is also carrying an umbrella that is tucked behind her dress. This would be a great figurine to have staged in front of a mirror so you can see the front and back.

The appeal of Pretty Ladies is rooted in romantic names, beautiful faces and elegant gowns. Collectors are attracted to the rich, layered colors and brush strokes. Some of the most popular Pretty Ladies include the Figure of the Year and the annual Christmas Day figurine. In recent years, elements such as metallic accents, jewelry, nail polish and sculpted flowers have been added to Pretty Ladies, as well as Petites and Miniature Ladies -- smaller reproductions of some of the company's best selling figurines.

As evidenced by the name, Royal Doulton enjoys the distinction of a "Royal Warrant" -- a mark of distinction bestowed upon people or companies who have regularly supplied members of the Royal Family with goods or services. Royal Warrants, regarded as a mark of supreme excellence and quality, cannot be bought or sold.

King Edward awarded the first Royal Warrant to Royal Doulton in 1901. The Doulton Company then became The Royal Doulton Company. Presently, the Royal Doulton brand holds two Royal Warrants, the Royal Albert brand holds two Royal Warrants and the Minton brand holds one.
