The Manhattan collection pays tribute to the architectural beauty of 1920's New York. In 1912, the famous perfumer Francois Coty commissioned Rene Lalique to create immense glass panels to adorn the exterior of his US headquarters in Manhattan. The legendary building on 5th Avenue is now the site of the historic New York department store Henri Bendel.

Impressed by the craftsmanship of the great artist, Coty asked Rene Lalique to take his talent to the perfume industry and create custom glass bottles for his perfumes. As a result of this initial collaboration, Rene Lalique created hundreds of perfume bottles for the famous perfumers of the time.

In 1929, he designed the "A" perfume bottle for Lucien Lelong, renowned French fashion designer of the 1930's. Drawing inspiration from the Art Deco design, Lalique reinterprets the "A" perfume bottle through the Manhattan series. The collection evokes the famous Manhattan skyline and its iconic skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building or Rockefeller Center.

Featuring strong Art Deco-inspired designs, the severe geometrical lines are softened by the satin-finish of the crystal. The designs are either clear crystal or highlighted with black or platinum enamel that is applied by hand.
