An Irish legend says that the famous phrase comes from the lighthouses at Hook Head in Wexford, and the nearby village of Crooke, in Waterford, Ireland. These beautiful lighthouses guide the ships and fishermen into safe harbor of Waterford.
According to the legend, the phrase was first uttered by William the Conqueror, who led the Norman conquest of Ireland. He was said to commit to conquer Ireland "By Hook or by Crook" which meant that he was going to enter the Waterford harbor by using either one of the prevailing winds in that area. If one missed the Hook and Crooke lighthouses the ship would likely sail out to the treacherous waters of North Atlantic and completely miss landing in Ireland. Each piece is hand numbered and signed. Accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity, Limited Edition of 25. Designed by Greg Sullivan.
Handmade in Waterford, Ireland.
